November 15 marked the beginning of the construction phase of the $700M development at Foxwoods as Tribal and Foxwoods leaders broke ground on the project that will add two million square feet to what is already the largest casino in the world.

"I'm very proud of this project," said Tribal Council Vice Chairman Kenneth Reels, "it means job security for more people in the area."

Once the development project is complete in the summer of 2008, 2,300 permanent jobs will be added, raising Foxwoods employment rolls to approximately 14,000 people. In addition, many jobs will be created by the multi-year construction.

"The jobs that will stem from this facility will be decent, good paying jobs Connecticut residents will want," said Catherine Marx, who was representing Gov. Jodi Rell.

The development project is meant to diversify the resort, and will provide Foxwoods' customers with more gaming, more entertainment and additional resort amenities, including more convention and meeting space at a single site than any other casino on the East Coast. (More)

After three weeks of heart-pounding poker action, all eyes were on Nick Schulman of New York City, who won $2.1 million at Foxwoods Resort Casino's prestigious World Poker Finals. Schulman, who is 21, became the youngest player to ever win a World Poker Tour event.

In his "Final Table" debut November 18th, Schulman went "all in" and won the title over well known players at the table such as Lyle Berman, Bill Gazes and Allen Cunningham.  Schulman initially won his way into the tournament by capturing a $1,000 satellite event to earn a seat in the 783-player event. Schulman had his family cheering him on as the finals cards hit the table.

Schulman secured the pot after several intense hours of No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em in front a live audience as the Travel Channel cameras rolled, catching all of the action.  Foxwoods' World Poker Finals (WPT) event will air on the Travel Channel in the Spring of 2006. (More)

TRIBAL SYMBOLS

Framed against the sky, the lone tree on a knoll represents Mashantucket, the "much-wooded land" where the Pequots hunted and kept alive their identity as an independent people. Displayed on the knoll is the sign of Robin Cassasinnamon, the Pequot’s first leader following the 1637 massacre at Mystic Fort. The fox stands as a reminder that the Pequots are known as "the fox people."
