It was a grand celebration in the Rainmaker Food Court on February 15 for Foxwoods 14th anniversary. It was a chance to honor the past and celebrate the future of the largest resort casino in the world. Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman Michael Thomas exclaimed "Wiqômun!", turning the event into a Pequot language lesson for the moment. "Can you say that with me? The crowd gave a hearty "Wiqômun" back to Thomas who explained, "Welcome…that is welcome in the Pequot language."
A festive balloon arch with the Foxwoods colors - purple and light blue, adorned the stage. The focal point was a massive chocolate confectionary masterpiece created by pastry chef Philip Soulat. It featured chocolate replicas of the Rainmaker statue, slot machines, BB King guitar, a chocolate photo of the Grand Pequot Tower, and many more depicting "Foxwoods through the years". (More)

The International Coalition for Children and the Environment (ICCE) held an energetic kickoff presentation at the Mercantile Exchange building in Norwich on January 27. ICCE directors, partners and sponsors came together with local and state officials, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation representatives, and local citizens to focus of environmental issues.
"This is an opportunity to work on one common goal that we can all understand and appreciate," said Michael Van Leesten, chairman of the board for ICCE and deputy director of public affairs for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. "Global warming transcends all of race, color and world politics. Unless we do something about it, it'll have an adverse effect."
